March Music Recommendations
It's still too damn cold so here is some music to warm you up
This year started off weird. The first album that I can’t stop thinking about is Lil Yachty’s Let’s Start Here. My friend chosafine described it as “Pink Floyd on lean” which is the best description for the album. Lil Yachty’s singing is not *good* but that makes the album better in a way that’s hard to describe in words. I am undecided on if it is one that will go on my 2023 AOTY list but I definitely like it enough to recommend it. Favourite track here is the BLACK seminole.
The second album that has been on repeat ever since it came out is Skrillex’s Quest For Fire. The last time I heard any Skrillex was when I was a teenager. The man has honed his craft and this album is full of bangers. My personal favourite track on is Still Here (with the ones that I came with) which I think will be a hit on the festival circuit. This album definitely goes on the 2023 AOTY list.
The third album has strong “late night chilling at the club” vibes to me. Kelela’s Raven is the first album I heard of hers but I will definitely be keeping an ear out for her music in the future. Favourite track on here is Closure.
The fourth album is Little Simz’s NO THANK YOU. It came out in December of last year but it took me a few months to really warm up to it. This album is full of Little Simz talking her shit backed with Inflo’s exuberant production on it. Man does that producer love their horns. I can’t blame them, they sound really good. Favourite track on here is No Merci.
One last little gem I’ve got for y’all is the latest single from Janelle Monáe. It’s just so smooth and catchy. I can’t stop listening to it.
That’s all I’ve got for y’all today. What have y’all been listening to?
